(1) Using Public Transportation Cards

In Korea, we usually use public transportation cards to avoid inconvenience of carrying cash to pay fares for bus, subway or taxi. In particular, you can use one transportation card to pay fares for bus, train, subway and highways throughout Korea.
A prepaid public transportation card refers to a card that you can use by charging the amount with as much as you need. The most widely used cards are T-money and Cashbee cards.
These cards can be purchased and recharged at subway stations, convenience stores, and street kiosks.
Using a credit card and check card, you can firstly pay the fare and make payments later to the fi-
nancial companies. When you are issued a check card or credit card from a financial company, you can choose the option of a public transportation card, and it is very convenient because you can use it as a credit card and public transportation card.

 

(1) 교통카드

한국에서는 버스, 지하철, 택시 등을 이용할 현금을 가지고 다니는 불편을 피하기 위해 교통카드 등으로 대중교통을 이용하는 것이 보편화되었습니다. 특히 교통카드 1장으로 전국 어디에 서나 버스, 기차, 지하철, 고속도로 등에서 요금을 지불할 수 있어 편리합니다.
선불 교통카드는 현금으로 필요한 금액만큼 충전하여 사용하는 카드로 대표적으로 티머니카 드, 캐시비카드가 있습니다. 지하철역, 편의점 등에서 교통카드를 구입하고 현금으로 충전할 수 있습니다.
신용 후불카드는 카드로 요금을 먼저 지불하고 금융회사에서 나중에 결제하는 방식으로, 신용 카드와 체크카드가 이에 해당합니다. 금융회사 에서 체크카드나 신용카드를 발급받을 때 교통 카드 기능을 추가하면 되며, 하나의 카드로 신용 기능과 교통기능을 함께 사용할 수 있어 매우 편리합니다.

Children and teenagers can receive discounts if they register their date of birth at a convenient store or switch the cards to children’s cards and register the date of birth on the website within 10 days.
▶ Different discount rates apply for teenagers (aged between 13 and 18 years) and children (aged between 6 and 12 years).

 

어린이와 청소년의 경우, 편의점에서 생년월일을 등록 하거나, 어린이/청소년용으로 변경 후 10일 이내에 홈페이지에서 생년월일을 등록하면 할인 혜택을 받을 수 있습니다.
▶ 청소년 요금은 만 13세~18세, 어린이 요금은 만 6세~12세에 적용됩니다.

 

(2) Assistance for Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Childcare

① National Happiness Card

National Happiness Card is an exclusive card issued to grant government voucher. A government voucher refers to the system under which the government provides a voucher that can purchase service (or goods) at a designated place instead of directly giving cash, services, or goods to the welfare recipients. Foreign residents can be eligible for financial assistance (government assistance) if they are registered as a member or a dependent of a member of the national health insurance plan.
Since you can use the government voucher only with a card, you must first receive the National Happiness Card. You can apply for issuance at the branches of a nearby bank, post office, Nonghyup (NH), or credit card company, or on the website or through call center.
But you should be noted that after being issued the National Happiness Card, you must separately apply for the issuance of a government voucher, and each service provider may request a different application method and supporting documents.
For more information, visit the Community Service Center (Community center for Eup/Myeon office, and Dong) in your jurisdiction or access the “Find a voucher that suits you” on the National Happiness Card website and apply for the voucher service that you want to receive following the instruction.

 

(2) 임신·출산·육아 지원과 소비생활 혜택

① 국민행복카드

국민행복카드는 국가바우처 서비스 혜택을 받기 위한 전용 카드입니다. 국가바우처란, 국가가 복지대상자에게 직접 현금이나 서비스, 물품 등을 제공하는 대신, 정해진 이용처에서 서비스(또는 물품)로 교환할 수 있는 이용권을 제공하는 것을 말합니다. 외국인도 국민건강보험 가입자나 피부양자로 등록되어 있으면 국가바우처 혜택을 받을 수 있습니다.
국가바우처는 카드 형태로만 제공되므로 국민행 복카드를 먼저 발급받아야 하는데, 가까운 은행, 우체국, 농협, 신용카드사 영업점을 방문하시고 나, 홈페이지, 콜센터를 통해 발급신청이 가능합 니다.
한 가지 주의할 점은 국민행복카드 발급 후 바우처 서비스는 반드시 별도로 신청하여야 혜택을 받을 수 있으며, 각 서비스 제공기관에 따라 신청 방법과 증빙서류가 각각 다르다는 것입니다.

② Local-Currency Card

Local currency refers to a means of payment that is issued by local governments for the circulation and use only at the member stores located within a concerned jurisdiction. It is issued in three types; paper currency, card, and mobile currency. You can use local currency within the balance of a card issued. You can apply for issuance after installing the local currency app provided by the local governments such as provincial office, city hall, or county office having jurisdiction over your address, or apply for issuance at a bank which signed contract with a local government.
When you use the local card, the local governments provide cash to card users up to a minimum of 5% to a maximum of about 30% of the amount you used. Each municipality has set a limit for a monthly usage per person, and if the budget runs out, you cannot be able to receive the support. Accordingly, you can install the local currency app provided by the provincial office, city hall, or county office having jurisdiction over your address, and then use the card by automatically charging the amount within the monthly usage limit per person. For more information on how to issue local currency by local governments, discount benefits, purchase limit, franchise stores, card issuing banks, etc., please access the Local Administration Integrated Information System website(내 고장 소개’>’지역사랑 상품권’).

 

② 지역화폐카드

지역화폐란, 지방자치단체에서 자체적으로 발행해 관할구역 내에 소재한 가맹점에서만 사용이 가능하도록 한 지급수단을 말합니다. 발행방식은 크게 종이 형태의 지류형, 카드형, 모바일형 3가지 방식으로 발행되고 있습니다. 지역화폐는 지역화폐카드를 발급받아 잔액 범위 내에서 사용이 가능합니다. 발급신청은 주소지 관할 도청, 시청, 군청에서 제공하는 지역화폐 앱 설치 후발급 신청하거나, 지방자치단체와 협약된 은행을 통해 발급 신청을 하면 됩니다.
